Ffos Las wary of Friday rain

Officials at Ffos Las are on "weather watch" ahead of their big jumps meeting, featuring the Welsh Champion Hurdle on Saturday.

The course is currently raceable and dry weather is forecast until Friday when, like most areas of the UK, rain is set to hit the Carmarthenshire track which could cause concern.

"Conditions at the moment are raceable, albeit heavy ground. We are fortunately looking at a little bit of an interlude of a predominately dry 36-48 hours," said clerk of the course Tim Long.

"But the forecast through Friday into Saturday is not that great, so it's a watching brief for us.

"Obviously we will monitor the situation. If that forecast is still correct and we are getting heavy rain on Friday then we will probably say inspection first thing on Saturday morning, but I'm not pre-empting that.

"Depending on which forecast you look at we could get between 10 and 20 millimetres of rain on Friday. The bottom end of that would be fine, the top end I don't know. It could be a worry."
