Fife in hunt for play-off spot

Fife continued their remarkable run towards a play-off spot in the Elite League as they claimed a dramatic 5-4 penalty shot win over Braehead.

Derek Roehl tied the contest up with just two minutes to play and Ned Lukacevic was the only man to score in the shootout as the Flyers secured their third consecutive win and leapfrogged Hull into the final play-off place.

Another win over the Clan on Sunday in their final regular season game will secure post-season play for Todd Dutiaume's men, although they are guaranteed that anyway if the Stingrays, who did not play on Saturday night, lose to Sheffield.

The Steelers will go into that clash on the back of a victory after Frank Doyle claimed a shutout in a 2-0 win over Coventry.

League champions Belfast ended their regular season with a 5-3 victory over Nottingham, who will face Braehead in the only play-off quarter-final confirmed so far.

In the evening's other game Dundee, who are guaranteed second seeding for the post season after winning the Gardiner Conference, beat basement boys Edinburgh 3-1.
