Finke looking to the future

Cameroon coach Volker Finke insists that they need to look to the future after their World Cup qualification hopes disappeared with defeat to Croatia.

Croatia eased to a 4-0 win in Manaus, which meant Finke's side could not progress to the knockout stages.

"It's a tough result to take," said Finke, who also had Alex Song sent off in the first half for an off-the-ball challenge on Mario Mandzukic.

"It's always difficult to play with ten men, but that's still no excuse for tonight's performance.

"There's no doubt that Croatia were more clinical in front of goal, but Cameroon also had chances to score. We need to move on and look to the future, because this team is full of promising players."

Song himself apologised for his challenge and released a statement.

"I'm very sad at the moment as I feel I have let my country and myself down," he said.

"It was a stupid moment and I'm truly sorry. If I could do anything to take it back I would. Please forgive me."
