Flitcroft: Award goes to family

David Flitcroft revealed his Manager of the Month award is on his son's mantelpiece as the Bury boss dedicated his gong to his family.

The Shakers went through February unbeaten and conceded just twice in five games to give Flitcroft, appointed the job in December, his first ever manager of the month award.

The 40-year-old was pleased for the club, his family and in particular his dad, who died in 2008.

"My little lad cleared his trophies off and my mum was buzzing," the Bury manager said.

"We still live in my dad's name every day and she text me 'your dad would be proud'.

"On a personal level it's brilliant but I've come to a club where people work hard and it's for everyone. Someone came to see me and had a photo with it and said 'can you sign this, you're the first manager who's won it for a few years'.

"That's the type of people at the football club. We're engaging everyone and it's an award for the club."
