Forest make Fathy approach

Sky Sports understands Nottingham Forest have made an approach for Egyptian defender Ahmed Fathy.

The 29-year-old finished last season on loan at Hull City from Al Ahly, and he played in seven games for Steve Bruce's side as they booked their place in the Premier League.

Fathy, who played for Sheffield United earlier in his career, was recently selected in the African Team of the Year at the annual awards, which saw Yaya Toure named the Player of the Year.

Fathy is keen on a return to England and promotion-chasing Forest are hopeful they can conclude a deal for his signature this week.

A number of Premier League and rival Championship clubs had also been looking at Fathy, but sources in Egypt have confirmed to us that Forest are now in pole position to secure his signature.
