Freedman: Planning has begun

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman's plans for next season are well under way as he attempts to balance financial frugality with on-field success.

Wanderers on Monday recruited midfielder Neil Danns, who will join on a one-year deal when his contract with Leicester expires this summer having spent this campaign on loan at the Reebok Stadium.

And Freedman, who has overseen a disappointing season with his side sitting 14th in the Sky Bet Championship having been tipped as promotion candidates, is not finished there.

"I have to have one eye on the financial side of things," he told BBC's Late Kick-Off. "But I have got to make sure we're competitive next season also.

"I want to be making sure the type of player I bring in is a younger player that has got more potential to try and get better.

"My first love is coaching and that's what I am trying to get. The squad is a lot younger at the moment and that obviously has financial benefits as well."
