Fugue on course for Dubai

John Gosden's brilliant filly The Fugue is likely to be targeted at one of the flagship events on Dubai World Cup night at Meydan next month.

The five-year-old Dansili mare has only twice finished outside of the first three in 14 career starts, 13 of those in stakes company and 11 at Group One level.

She claimed her second and third Group One victories in the Yorkshire Oaks and the Irish Champion Stakes in 2013, before being narrowly beaten into second in both the Breeders' Cup Turf and the Hong Kong Vase.

The Fugue could run in either the Dubai Sheema Classic, a race her owners Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webber won with Dar Re Mi in 2010, the Dubai Duty Free or the World Cup itself on March 29.

Simon Marsh, racing and bloodstock manager for the owners, said: "At the moment the intention is to run in Dubai, but at this stage I'm not sure which race she'll be aimed for.

"Where she goes will be largely down to John, but hopefully she will run there somewhere.

"I would imagine she'll go straight there, as Dar Re Mi did, but it will be John's decision (which race she runs in).

"She is a fantastic filly to have as she is remarkably consistent and you would have to say she's right up there with the best."
