Futile victory for England

England missed out on the final of the women's World Cup despite winning their last Super Six match against New Zealand by 15 runs.

Sarah Taylor slammed 88 off 79 balls in an England total of 266-6 after they opted to bat first at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium.

Skipper Charlotte Edwards' 54 set the tone and number three Taylor peppered the boundary with 16 fours and a six.

Amy Satterthwaite hit 103, her second ODI century, and put on 134 with captain Suzie Bates (79) for the second wicket as New Zealand made a strong start in reply.

But, from 145-1 in the 30th over, New Zealand collapsed and finished short on 251-9. England spinner Holly Colvin claimed 3-48 and seamer Jenny Gunn 2-26.

Unfortunately for defending champions England, had already eliminated them from final contention.

Australia and West Indies will meet again in Sunday's final, while England and New Zealand contest the third place play-off on Friday.
