Galway test for Fenomeno

Noel Meade is looking forward to seeing Il Fenomeno get his career over fences under way in Sunday's Ballybrit Novice Chase at Galway.

The six-year-old struck gold twice during his novice campaign over timber and having also run well in a couple of Grade One events, he finished off with a rating of 135.

Despite facing just four opponents on his first foray over the larger obstacles, Il Fenomeno is unlikely to have things all his own way with some talented rivals taking him on.

Meade said: "He's in good form and ready to go. He's schooled nicely and all is well, so we'll see what happens.

"There is every chance a beginners' chase somewhere would be just as good as the race on Sunday, so we thought we'd give it a go."

Tom Taaffe's Argocat won very easily over fences at Limerick a couple of weeks ago, while the Willie Mullins-trained Twinlight barely came off the bridle at Listowel on his latest appearance.

Aughnacurraveel and Cootamundra complete the small but select field.
