Garrigues humbled by Halep

Top seed Anabel Medina Garrigues saw her hopes of reclaiming the Fes Grand Prix title shattered by a quarter-final defeat to Simona Halep.

Romanian fifth seed Halep seized control of the match from the start, breaking her Spanish opponent five times and not facing a single break point against her serve en route to an impressive 6-2 6-1 victory.

Halep will face Dutch qualifier Kiki Bertens in the last four after the world number 149 claimed an equally convincing 6-1 6-4 victory over Spanish opponent Garbine Muguruza Blanco.

Swedish lucky loser Mathilde Johansson surprised Czech third seed Petra Cetkovska 6-3 6-4 to reach the last four where she will play Spaniard Laura Pous-Tio, who beat Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania 6-4 6-1.
