Gelling open to position move
Wigan three quarter Anthony Gelling is prepared to play in the forwards for the Warriors next season after bulking up in pre-season.
The 22-year-old New Zealander played the majority of his first-team and reserve grade rugby as a centre after joining from part-timers Auckland Vulcans.
Pre-season weights sessions have been split between the forwards and backs to cater for their different roles and Gelling is happy expanding his versatility for head coach Shaun Wane.
"I'm open to it," he told the Wigan Observer over a possible switch in positions. "As long as I'm playing or in the frame for the first team I'm happy.
"I'm training with the forwards to put some weight on. I think I'll be doing it for most of pre-season, we'll see what happens in the trials and who knows?"
Gelling had an extended run in Wigan's first-team in May and June when winger Pat Richards was sidelined and he was pleased with his form and progress.
"I was happy with last season, I was a bit patchy, but I played more first-team that I expected so that was a bonus," he continued.
"I felt I got better on the little things in my game, I worked on them and by the end I felt better than the start. I was in the right centre spot in the reserves and playing well."
