Giants take step towards title

Belfast Giants extended their winning streak to nine as they beat the Fife Flyers 6-4 to build a 22-point lead at the top of the Elite League.

Kevin Saurette scored twice for Belfast with Chris Higgins, Colin Shields, Calvin Elfring and Mark Garside getting the others.

With Belfast way off in the distance, the battle for second is where the action is.

With the Sheffield Steelers suffering a 5-2 loss against their bitter rivals Nottingham, the Braehead Clan pounced to move up with a 3-1 win over Coventry Blaze, third period goals from Lee Esders and Neil Trimm getting them over the line.

Robert Lachowicz scored twice for the Panthers as they blew away a disappointing Steelers team.

Braehead sit one point clear of Sheffield, who are level with Dundee and Nottingham after the Stars lost 3-1 in Cardiff.
