Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has signed a one-year contract extension, the club confirmed on Friday.
The deal means the 38-year-old is set to play in a 22nd season for the Old Trafford club, for whom he made his debut in March 1991.
In that time he has made a club record 898 appearances, scoring 162 goals, and won 12 Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, two Champions Leagues, one Super Cup, an Intercontinental Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Ryan is a marvellous player. In many ways, he epitomises all my teams here at United; he has constantly re-invented himself, adapted to the changing nature of the game and retained that desire and hunger for success.
"In every training session and match, he is the example for others to follow.
"The young players in the dressing room have a great chance to learn from a player who will continue to break records that anyone in the game will find hard to beat."
Former Wales international Giggs said: "When I signed my first contract, I never thought I'd be able to play at United for 22 years but I feel good and I know I can still contribute to keeping the team pushing for honours.
"Winning the Club's 19th title was a great feeling but this club is all about what we do next and I'm really pleased I can be part of that."
Ferguson has claimed it is a miracle how Ryan Giggs manages to keep going with the player set to make his 899th United appearance against Liverpool at Old Trafford.
And the Scot simply cannot understand how Giggs manages it.
"I don't know how he does it," Ferguson told MUTV. "It is a miracle.
"His form this season has been the same as the last five or six. His fitness has been incredible and his appetite to play is just the same. We are all delighted."
Although there was a period in the middle of his career when it seemed Giggs would be badly affected by hamstring problems, these days he rarely misses more than the odd game.
Part of that is down to knowing his body; it is not unheard of for Giggs to simply notify the bench he has to come off.
There is also the regular yoga sessions, the impact of which cannot be underestimated.
"We used to think he had spasms in his hamstrings, which were related to his back," said Ferguson.
"When he started doing the yoga, all that disappeared."
And, with Paul Scholes coming out of retirement, Ferguson has two perfect examples of what every young professional should aspire to.
"The youngsters couldn't have a better mentor," said the Scot.
"Ryan and Paul Scholes are different types of midfield players but they have proved by their dedication that you can play to that age."

without a doubt the most consistantly best player the premier league has seen ,followed by his team mate paul scholes.its just a shame (like george best) he did not have an international stage to show off his skills, what a differance he would have made to englands chances of winning somthing in the last twenty some years.i hope he manages a thousand games.

The worrying thing about all this is not the fact that Giggs and Scholes are still playing..hey if they are good enough, then no worries....the biggest problem is that there doesnt seem to be anybody coming through to replace them...it's a sad thing, but i can see United slowly going the same way as the great Liverpool team of the 80's esp when Ferguson retires..
