Giro chiefs reveal 2013 route

Giro d'Italia officials have confirmed the route for next year's race as they try to lure the likes of Alberto Contador and Bradley Wiggins.

The race will feature three time trials as well as a series of mountain stages, with the event beginning in Naples on 4 May and ending in Brescia on 26 May.

Key features include stage 2, a 17.4km team time trial on the island of Ischia, off Naples, while stage 8 will see riders undertake a 55.5km individual time trial from Gabicce Mare to Saltara.

Stage 18 is a 19.4km mountain time trial and in total there are seven uphill finishes, with the three stages before the flat ending in Brescia crucial.

After the mountain time trial, stage 19 goes over the Gavia and Stelvio passes, and stage 20 features five climbs.
