Glamorgan swoop for Goodwin

Glamorgan have signed veteran batsman Murray Goodwin on an initial one-year contract.

The 39-year-old former Zimbabwe international left Sussex at the end of last season following a hugely successful 12-year spell at Hove.

During his time on the south coast, Goodwin scored more than 24,000 runs in all competitions, including Sussex's highest individual innings of 344 not out against Somerset in 2009, and helped the county win seven trophies.

Glamorgan's head of elite performance Matthew Mott said: "We're delighted to sign Murray Goodwin as he will strengthen the batting line-up and has plenty to offer to benefit our batting group.

"Murray has played the best part of his career at Sussex and had a massive effect on Sussex cricket, so we can't wait to have him in the squad."

Glamorgan finished sixth in Division Two of the LV= County Championship last season and were second-bottom of their groups in both the Clydesdale Bank 40 and Friends Life t20.

Goodwin, who played 19 Tests and 71 one-day internationals for Zimbabwe, said: "I am really pleased to be continuing my cricket career with Glamorgan and look forward to joining up with the players and staff.

"I have had lengthy conversations with Matthew Mott and am aware of the challenges the team faced last year and the hard work that lies ahead of us, but I am determined to help bring success back to the Club.

"I feel I still have a lot to offer in all formats of the game."
