Godolphin count on Poll

Trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni is expecting a bold show from Opinion Poll in the Betfair Henry II Stakes at Sandown on Thursday.

Godolphin's stalwart stayer goes for this Group three contest over an extended two miles on the back of a success in a similar race on Dubai World Cup night in March.

"I love this horse. He does everything you ask of him and he does everything right," said the Newmarket trainer handler.

"He's in very good form at the moment and I think you'll see a very good run from him.

"People must remember he is an old man now but he has lots of experience and that helps in these long distance races, it helps them relax."

Trainer David O'Meara is hoping age has not caught up with the 10-year-old Blue Bajan, who was victorious in this race 12 months ago.

"He won the race last year but he's a year older now and hasn't quite run to the same level yet," the North Yorkshire handler told At The Races.

"He seems fit and well at home and still has an appetite for racing, so he'll go and do his best."

Aaim To Prosper represents Brian Meehan, who believes the gelding's liking for Sandown will stand him in good stead.

But he feels the eight-year-old might need his first run since finishing sixth to Opinion Poll in the Goodwood Cup last July.

"Our 2010 Cesarewitch hero is now entrenched as a Group-race performer," read a statement posted on the Manton trainer's website, www.brianmeehan.co.uk.

"Fourth in this last year, he was nosed out of a Listed race over course and distance in July before finishing close in the Goodwood Cup.

"May be a little under-cooked for this first run since, but loves the track and is sure to run a top race."
