Goodwood plan further watering

Officials at Goodwood are planning further watering on Wednesday evening ahead of the third day of the Glorious meeting.

Clerk of the course Seamus Buckley turned on the taps after the first day of racing and with the ground described as good to firm at the end of day two, he will repeat the process overnight.

"The course rode as I expected it to today, slightly slower than yesterday but it was still certainly on the fast side. The times were not as quick as yesterday," he said.

"We plan to water all of the straight course tonight and get some more water round the bends so that the horses can get their toe into it. We'll start watering from 7pm and hope to have the watering finished by 6am in the morning so two members of the groundstaff will be doing an all-night stint.

"There is still the possibility of rain on Friday night.

"The rail from the winning post to the three-furlong marker in the straight will be taken down this evening to produce a fresh strip of ground [on the inside of the track] for racing tomorrow."
