Great Britain name untried trio

GB coach Doug Christiansen has named three newcomers in his World Ice Hockey Championship squad.

Great Britain are preparing for their Division 1B campaign in Lithuania.

Hull Stingrays forward Matty Davies, who this week committed himself to the club for a further three years, Dundee Stars defenceman Paul Swindlehurst and Braehead Clan goaltender Mike Will have all made the final 23-man party for the first time.

Belfast Giants blue-liner Kevin Phillips and Matt Towe of Braehead are the two to miss out after Christiansen had cut the group down to 25 following last week's training camp and the two warm-up games against the Netherlands.

GB, who fly out tomorrow, take on Croatia in their opening game on Sunday before facing Romania, hosts Lithuania, Netherlands and Poland between April 20-26.

Christiansen said: "I think it was an outstanding camp and all the guys worked hard.

"They are a confident group of guys and it now up to us to go out and prove to the world what we can do."
