Green happy to remain No.1

Rob Green has revealed he would not have signed a new deal at Queens Park Rangers if he was not assured of the No.1 spot at Loftus Road.

England international Green, who saw his previous deal expire in the summer, signed a new two-year contract this month after establishing himself as first-choice under Harry Redknapp.

Green lost his place in the side to Julio Cesar soon after joining from West Ham two years ago, but the former Norwich man was No.1 keeper last season as he helped QPR win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

He believes he has proved his worth and, despite Cesar still being under contract at Loftus Road and having been recalled from a loan spell at Toronto FC, Green will remain first-choice for QOR.

\"I would never have signed otherwise. I wouldn't have signed two years ago either, if I knew I wasn't going to play," said Green.

\"The year in the Premier League out of the team reinvigorated my desire to play football. It's something I have had every day since I started and that reinstilled it.

"I feel that I proved my worth last term, conceding less than a goal a game on our way to promotion.

"There's enough there to go on, as a defence and me personally, to think we did our bit and deserve a chance back in the Premier League.\"
