Griffith to take up MCC post

Former Sussex captain Mike Griffith's one-year tenure as the new president of the MCC will begin on Monday.

The 68-year-old, who was confirmed in the role in May with a start date of October 1, will succeed Phillip Hodson.

"I'm very excited about becoming MCC president and it is a great honour," Griffith said on the eve of his appointment.

"There is so much good work going on here at the club and I'm looking forward to a very busy year."

Griffith made his debut for Sussex in 1962 and went on to play for the club for 12 years, five of those as captain.

He takes office on the traditional day of committee changes at Lord's.

Four members will joining the new president on the MCC committee - Angus Fraser, Hugo Loudon, Robert Griffiths QC and John Barclay - while former England international Claire Taylor becomes the chair of the women's sub-committee.
