Ground key to Thakhira Classic aim

Ground conditions will dictate whether Al Thakhira runs in the English or French 1000 Guineas.

Marco Botti's Rockfel winner went down with all guns blazing on Saturday when second to J Wonder in the Fred Darling at Newbury, beaten just a head.

"I was chuffed with her, she ran a good race," said the Newmarket handler.

"Perhaps the ground had just dried up a little too much as she wants genuinely soft ground, but she battled on well.

"She showed she retained her ability, which is always a worry, especially as she hasn't really grown. You never know until they run.

"Where we go now, I'm not sure, it depends on the ground.

"I'm inclined to aim at France as it is usually soft, but that is not set in stone. We'll see what the ground is like at Newmarket first.

"I don't think the extra furlong in the Guineas will be an issue as she settled very well at Newbury."
