Guadeloupe to host Championships

The Caribbean will host the 2014 European Track Cycling Championships in October, it has been announced.

The European Cycling Union on Friday announced its elite track championships, which began in 2010, will be hosted by France, in Guadeloupe, from October 16 to 19.

The UEC wrote on Twitter: "The 2014 UEC Elite Track European Championships will take place at the Velodrome A. Detraux, Baie-Mahault-Guadeloupe (France) - 16-19 Oct."

The event carries qualification points for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, so a full-strength Great Britain team could travel.

In 2010 it was held in Pruszkow, Poland, it has twice been held in Apeldoorn, Holland (in 2011 and 2013), while in 2012 it was in Lithuania.
