Guintoli fastest in Istanbul
Sylvain Guintoli set the fastest time in the first ever qualifying session for the Superbike World Championship to be held at Istanbul Park.
The Aprilia Racing Team rider, who currently lies second in the overall standings - one point behind leader Tom Sykes - crossed the line in one minute 56.190 seconds at the Intercity Istanbul Park.
The Frenchman finished ahead of Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad GoldBet) and Eugene Laverty (Aprilia Racing Team) who was third, with Sykes in fourth. All four riders are still in contention for the title.
World Superbikes debutant Toni Elias (Red Devils Roma Aprilia) showed good pace to claim fifth - a second off Guintoli with Jules Cluzel (FIXI Crescent Suzuki) in sixth.
Leon Camier had to sit out the session following a crash in the first free practice session where he suffered a broken foot. The FIXI Crescent Suzuki rider was taken to hospital to undergo surgery on his injuries.
Team Ducati Alstare duo of Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini also sat out the session with Checa declared unfit to race due to a broken wrist while Badovini has a left ankle bone contusion and his condition is yet to be reviewed.
Max Neukirchner (MR-Racing Ducati) is also unfit to race due to a hand injury while Loris Baz (Kawasaki Racing Team) has not been cleared to race after the back injury he suffered at the Nurburgring.
