Gulbis to meet Garcia-Lopez
Ernests Gulbis will take on Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the ATP Saint Petersburg final after both players came through their semi-finals untroubled.
Latvia's Gulbis stormed into Sunday's final with a 6-3 6-3 win over unheralded Michal Przysiezny from Poland, while Spaniard Garcia-Lopez overcame Portuguese Joao Sousa 6-1 6-1.
It was the 25-year-old sixth seed's second victory in three encounters with Przysiezny.
The first set went with serve until the eighth game when Gulbis, ranked 36 in the world, made the vital break-through.
Gulbis broke early to take control of the second set and although Przysiezny, playing in his first ATP semi-final, fought tooth and nail, Gulbis broke again in the ninth game to advance into his fourth career final.
"It wasn't easy to play so early but luckily I managed to wake up in time and win," Gulbis said.
Meanwhile, the 74th-ranked Garcia-Lopez won six consecutive games in the first set and broke his opponent twice in the second before sealing the win on his second match point.
The 30-year-old, who was runner-up in Bucharest and Rome in April, is looking for his third career title.
"The final will be even more difficult," Garcia-Lopez predicted. "I hope I'll be ready to battle for the title tomorrow."
