Northampton midfielder Luke Guttridge will be out for up to three months after breaking a bone in his foot against Gillingham.
And in a double injury blow for the Cobblers, manager Aidy Boothroyd has also confirmed hat defender John Johnson will be absent for between four and six weeks as he is facing a knee operation.
"Luke has got a broken metatarsal," Boothroyd told the club's official website. "He will have that pinned in the next few days and that is probably going to rule him out for about three months.
"John Johnson has nipped a cartilage in his knee so that's going to be four to six weeks.
"They are two quite big injuries but this is why you have a squad and that's what the loan market is there for as well.
"I've made some enquiries in the last couple of days and we've got a few things to tie up on a loan signing so hopefully we should have something to announce in the next few days, either before or after the weekend."
