Haas digs deep to make quarters

Top seed Tommy Haas came from a set down to defeat fellow German Benjamin Becker and reach the quarter-finals of the PBZ Zagreb Indoors.

Haas was up against it when he dropped the first set, but he battled back to win through 4-6 6-3 6-3.

The 35-year-old, a former world number two, will take on Russian Andrey Kuznetsov in the last eight after the qualifier also came from behind, knocking out eighth-seeded Dutchman Igor Sijsling 1-6 6-3 7-6 (7/5).

Haas will be one of three Germans in the quarters, with compatriot Bjorn Phau springing the biggest upset of the day by beating Russian second seed Mikhail Youzhny 4-6 7-5 6-1.

Third seed Philipp Kohlschreiber enjoyed a rather easier passage than his countrymen as he swept aside Andrey Golubev from Kazakhstan 6-4 6-2.

Next up for Kohlschreiber is British lucky loser Dan Evans, who beat his German opponent, Michael Berrer, 1-6 6-1 7-6 (7/4).

Croatian fourth seed Ivan Dodig progressed with a 7-6 (7/5) 6-3 win over countryman Ivo Karlovic, while Israel's Dudi Sela completed the quarter-final line-up.
