Haas out of US Open
Germany’s Tommy Haas has pulled out of the US Open because of surgery on his right shoulder.
Haas, who is currently ranked 26th in the world, is out for the rest of the season after having a fourth operation on his shoulder.
His withdrawal has opened up a spot in the main draw at Flushing Meadows for Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus.
The 105th-ranked Baghdatis was the runner-up at the 2006 Australian Open and a semi-finalist at Wimbledon that year.
His best US Open showing was last year, when he made it to the third round.
