Hamburg reject Albion approach

German outfit Hamburg are believed to have rejected an approach from West Brom for technical director Lee Congleton.

Congleton has been in the frame to replace Dan Ashworth as West Brom's sporting and technical director.

Ashworth is quitting The Hawthorns at the end of the season to take up the role of the Football Association's new director of elite development.

Congleton has emerged as one of West Brom's top targets to succeed Ashworth having impressed as chief scout at Chelsea and also during his role at Hamburg.

West Brom are thought to have contacted Hamburg to enquire about Congleton's availability as they look to quickly fill the void created by Ashworth's departure.

However, Hamburg have rejected West Brom's approach for Congleton as he is highly-regarded by the German club's hierarchy.

A number of other clubs in England are thought to be admirers of Congleton as they look to bring in their own technical directors.
