Hamilton bring forward inspection

Officials at Hamilton have brought forward a planned inspection to 10am on Sunday after further rain put Monday's meeting in serious doubt.

Clerk of the course Hazel Peplinski on Friday announced a precautionary inspection for 11.30am on Sunday to assess the prospects of racing going ahead the following day, but conditions have worsened.

With the course now waterlogged in places, Peplinski is downbeat about their chances.

She said: "I'm not very hopeful at this stage.

"We initially called the precautionary inspection as we were forecast the rain on Sunday morning, but we actually got nearly 5.9 millimetres on Friday night.

"That has left the course waterlogged in places. I would say 10 to 15 per cent is unraceable at the moment.

"For that reason we have changed from a precautionary inspection to a full inspection and brought it forward to 10am, as I think we'll know by then.

"I'm not very optimistic as the course isn't drying out and there is more rain on the way.

"It is due to be our last meeting of what has been a very frustrating summer."
