Hammond has Only options

Micky Hammond may give Only Orsenfoolsies one more run over hurdles either at Cheltenham or at Kelso before campaigning back on the Flat.

The four-year-old staked a claim for the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham next month when taking the Victor Ludorum Hurdle at Haydock on Saturday.

The Grade Two totepool Premier Hurdle at Kelso on March 2 is the other race Hammond will consider for the dual purpose son of Trade Fair.

"He's taken well to hurdles and he's an improving horse," said the North Yorkshire trainer.

"He was on an upward curve on the Flat. I think he'll have one more hurdle race then we'll be back on the Flat in the spring. He has an entry for the Fred Winter and there is a novice race up at Kelso over two-mile-two. That would be a possibility.

"If we can find some softish ground for him on the Flat in the spring he'll have a crack at something.

"He has won over a mile at Beverley and was then fourth at York over a mile and a quarter. You would think there would be more improvement to come over a mile and a half."
