Harbour Watch retired to stud

Harbour Watch has left Richard Hannon's stables for a career at stud after being retired due to injury.

The Acclamation colt will take up stallion duties at the Tweenhills Stud in Gloucestershire boasting a 100% record.

Harbour Watch won all his three starts as a two-year-old culminating in the Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood to become a leading fancy for the 2000 Guineas.

However, he never raced again after fracturing a hind leg when being prepared for the Dewhurst Stakes, an injury which required four screws to be inserted.

Paying tribute to Harbour Watch, the Herridge handler told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk: "He stood 16.1 hands and was a magnificent looking specimen with an engine to match.

"He was right up there with the best horses that we have had here, and it was just a shame that he did not get the chance to show everyone just how good he was as a three-year-old.

"The Qatar Racing team and Robin Heffer, who owned Harbour Watch, were extremely patient, and we all tried our best to get him back, but it was one of those difficult injuries and eventually we were forced to concede defeat.

"However, we look forward to having some of Harbour Watch's progeny back here at Herridge and if they prove half as good as he did, we will have no complaints."
