Hartlepool suffer first defeat
Hartlepool continued their preparations for the 2014/15 League Two season with a disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Sunderland.
Black Cats substitute Carl Lawson's superb second-half finish proved to be the difference after Colin Cooper's side impressed for 70 minutes against a strong-looking Sunderland side.
Fellow youngster Andrew Cartwright added a second for Gus Poyet's men after 72 minutes before grabbing his second of the game to wrap up a comfortable victory for the Premier League side.
Pools will now entertain Whitby and Middlesbrough ahead of their opening League Two game against Bradford on August 2.
