Haydock call Saturday check

Officials at Haydock will stage a precautionary inspection a 7am ahead of their meeting on Saturday but are hopeful of racing taking place.

Conditions at the Merseyside venue are already described as heavy and although there is more rain on the way, clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright is hopeful he fixture will beat the elements.

Tellwright said on Friday morning: "We had 15 millimetres of rain on Thursday but we would be fine to race today. We could get up to 18 millimetres on Saturday but I'm optimistic we'll be racing.

"I think by 7am we'll have had some of the rain, but hopefully we'll be fine to race and we'll try to stagger through an unpleasant day as best we can."
