Hearn 'accepts' Brook terms
Kell Brook looks set to challenge IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander in America in the New Year.
Promoter Eddie Hearn is happy with the initial terms of an offer from the Alexander camp, despite his attempts to bring the champion to Sheffield.
The bout has been pencilled in for January 19 with a suitable venue and final contracts hopefully finalised later this week.
"We have received an offer to fight Devon Alexander for the IBF title on January 19 in America," Hearn told Sky Sports.
"In principle we accept the offer and will now progress to contract and hope to have a deal completed this week. The fight would likely take place in NYC or Las Vegas but will not happen in St Louis (Alexander's home town).
"Alexander and his team have turned down considerable offers to fight in the UK and have made it clear they have no interest in making the trip.
"Kell doesn't want to be gifted a title and is prepared to travel to become world champion. We would hope for huge travelling support from British fans on a defining night for Kell."
Brook moved into the mandatory position for the title with his three-round demolition of Hector Saldivia last month, while southpaw Alexander beat Randall Bailey to become champion later that same night.
The two sides have until November 22 to reach an agreement before the fight goes to purse bids.
