Heitinga set to sign new deal

Everton defender John Heitinga has revealed he is close to signing a new deal at the club.

The 28-year-old, who arrived from Atletico Madrid for £6million in 2009, is contracted at Goodison Park until the summer of 2014 but with a European push on the cards, he is ready to commit longer-term.

"There is a big chance that I sign a new contract at Everton," Heitinga told Goal.com.

"I just had a new contract proposal. The deal is not done yet. But I really love it at Everton. Everton is a beautiful club with great fans.

"Right now we do have the squad to reach the Europa League. I want to reach the highest possible. I want to qualify for European football with Everton. With this squad we deserve that."

Heitinga, linked with Fenerbahce in the summer, has made 112 appearances for David Moyes' side.
