Hightail touched off hot favourite Merit Man to spring a surprise in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint, the opening race of the two-day meeting
Beaten in all his previous starts, Hightail (20-1) sneaked through on the rail to collar 4-7 shot Merit Man, who had won both his races, by a nose for for trainer Wayne Lukas and jockey Rajiv Maragh.
The placings were allowed to stand after a stewards' inquiry.
Sole British raider, the Tom Dascombe-trained Ceiling Kitty, weakened tamely in the straight to finish last of the five runners after being up with the pace in the early stages.
The race lost some of its gloss when South Floyd was withdrawn at the start on veterinary advice while Super Ninety Nine had been pulled out earlier in the day.
