Higuain never considered exit

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain says he has stayed calm over his future throughout the summer after being linked with a move to Barcelona.

Higuain was reportedly on Barcelona's radar earlier in the transfer window and Lionel Messi stated that he would love to play alongside his Argentine compatriot at the Nou Camp.

The speculation has subsided in recent weeks after Barca moved to bring in Luis Suarez from Liverpool, but Higuain insists that he never considered leaving as he is happy at Napoli.

\"I only thought about the World Cup and that I would return to Napoli,\" the former Real Madrid forward told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

\"I was calm, I had nothing to fear because there was nothing to comment on.\"

Asked about Messi's comments, Higuain added: \"Messi said certain things and I can only be flattered by them.

\"I believe that every player would love to play alongside a great champion like him, but that does not mean that I ever wanted to leave.

"But if Messi came to Napoli, that would be great."

Higuain is determined to help Napoli enjoy success this season but is expecting an open title race after Inter Milan brought in a number of reinforcements.

Napoli finished third last season, seven points behind second-placed Roma and 24 adrift of runaway leaders Juventus.

\"The league will be more balanced. I don't think there will be a club able to get 102 points like Juve," said Higuain.

\"With (Massimiliano) Allegri they will start a new adventure and Juve will be the team to beat, but Inter have strengthened their team a lot.\"
