Hirscher strikes back
Defending World Cup champion Marcel Hirscher produced a stunning second run to claim victory in the men's giant slalom in Val d'Isere.
Frenchman Alexis Pinturault had led after the first run but Hirscher produced a time of 1 minute 8.29 seconds second time around to claim victory by 0.76secs.
Thomas Fanara of France finished second with German Stefan Luitz also on the podium after Pinturault slipped to fourth.
Overall World Cup leader Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway failed to complete the first run and now holds a lead of just 25 points over Austrian Hirscher.
Hirscher does, however, lead the giant slalom standings. He is 20 points better off than Ted Ligety.
