Hlavackova doubles up
Andrea Hlavackova completed a US Open title double on Saturday, winning the women's doubles with Lucie Hradecka.
Having already won the mixed doubles title, Hlavackova teamed up with fellow Czech Hradecka to claim the women's crown.
The fifth-seeded pair saw off eighth seeds Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua 6-7 6-1 6-4 in a hard-fought final.
The Australian pair failed to serve out the first set but took it any way on a tie-break but their Czech opponents, who had beaten the Williams sisters in the semi-finals, stormed back in the second.
Hlavackova and Hradecka held their nerve in a see-saw deciding set to make amends for last year's defeat in the final to Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci.
For the Australians it was more agony in what has been a season of near misses.
It was their third Grand Slam final defeat of the season, the pair having also finished runners-up at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
