Hoarau eyes English move

France striker Guillaume Hoarau has set his sights on a move to the Premier League, after failing to agree terms with Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne.

The former Paris Saint-Germain hit-man - who was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle and Everton 18 months ago - has been in discussions with 'Les Verts' for a number of weeks.

However, the move has now fallen through and the news has alerted a host of clubs in England to Hoarau's availability.

The 30-year-old's agents are Thierry Gras and Seb Ewen, and Gras has admitted that the Premier League is now Hoarau's preferred destination of choice.

"We had been talking to Saint-Etienne for some weeks about Hoarau coming in to replace Brandao and were forced to pass on a number of proposals during that time. But that's football and today, Guillaume remains a free agent," Gras told Sky Sports.

"It's true that we have spoken with Premier League clubs before about Guillaume, as his all-round game means he's suited to the league."

Saint-Etienne are now looking at alternatives, with Norwich striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel looking set to join on a season-long loan.
