The top seed claimed a tight first set 7-5 but her opponent then ran out steam and Li claimed the second 6-3 to ease into the next round.

Zhang claimed the opener 6-3 but Chan fought back to take the next two 6-4 and 6-2 to set up a meeting with Romanian Monica Niculescu who beat Slovakia's Anna Schmiedlova 4-6 6-2 6-3.
