Hoogerland hit by car again
Dutch rider Johnny Hoogerland has been hit by a vehicle for a second time while on a training ride.
Hoogerland was made famous at the 2011 Tour de France when a car catapulted him into a barbed-wire fence.
The 29-year-old Vacansoleil-DCM rider was taken into intensive care with fractured ribs after the incident in Alicante, on the east coast of Spain, on Sunday.
Hoogerland, who was preparing for the Tour of the Mediterranean, was riding downhill in front of the team scooter when an unsighted car turned into him.
He will undergo further tests on Monday and is now facing a prolonged period off the bike.
Hoogerland became headline news 18 months ago when, along with then Team Sky rider Juan Antonio Flecha, he was hit by another team's car and propelled off the road.
Hoogerland was sent airborne and needed 33 stitches in his leg after landing on a barbed-wire fence.
