Hoppings target for Lily

Lily Rules is to have her sights lowered in the Hoppings Stakes at Newcastle on June 26 after taking on the best of her generation in the Investec Oaks.

The Tony Coyle-trained three-year-old will drop back in trip for the Listed contest at Gosforth Park, where she has registered her two successes to date.

She had earned her chance in the fillies' Classic, in which she was not disgraced in finishing ninth behind Taghrooda, when second in the Musidora Stakes at York.

"She's come out of the race at Epsom very well. We didn't confirm her for the Ribblesdale (at Royal Ascot) for the simple reason we're going to Newcastle with her for the fillies' mile-and-a-quarter Listed race," said Coyle.

"I'd rather go there where she'll probably be a 3-1 or 4-1 shot than go to Ascot where she'd be a 25-1 chance.

"We dropped her in at Epsom to get the mile and a half. She got the trip, but the rain never came for her. Those were Group One fillies and she isn't that class on that ground.

"When they quickened, they kept on quickening but she only quickened once and stayed on at that speed.

"We're lowering her colours to try to get her head in front and give her a bit of confidence and she's won at Newcastle before."
