Carlton House is to stick at a mile for his next run despite being at odds-on in the Summer Mile at Ascot in July.
The Queen's colt, third in the Epsom Derby and fourth in the Irish equivalent last year, started this season with victory in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes and a fine second in the Prince of Wales's Stakes, both over 10 furlongs.
He dropped to a mile for the first time since his juvenile days in the Summer Mile but could only manage fourth to Fanunalter.
Trainer Sir Michael Stoute said: "He wasn't quite right when he came back from Ascot but we are training him for the QEII."
