Hughes praise for Stranraer

Inverness boss John Hughes was satisfied after his side had won their Scottish Cup fifth round replay over Stranraer thanks to a 2-0 victory at a damp Caledonian Stadium.

Nick Ross and Aaron Doran scored at either ends of the game against the League One part-timers and Hughes said: "The carrot of the tie against Dundee United was there before we kicked-off.

"We're happy to be through. We maybe didn't play as well as we could have but you have to give credit to Stranraer.

"They were really well organised and passed the ball well.

"I was pleased with the impact of Marley (Watkins) and Aaron (Doran) when they came on because I thought they were our best players on Saturday.

"Sometimes it is hard to get into the game from off the bench.

"Dean Brill has also made a top save and he's in really good form right now.

"He's a big character in the dressing room and he's shown great concentration levels to make that save because he's not had a lot to do all game."

His opposite number at Stranraer, Steven Aitken, added: "I'm proud of my players and I cannot fault their effort. Unfortunately they just came up short.

"It was disappointing to lose the early goal as we had spoken all week in our preparation about the need to start well.

"The players could have thrown in the towel but credit to them because they battled back."
