Hynd announces retirement

Beijing Paralympic champion Sam Hynd has announced his plans to retire from swimming.

Hynd won gold in the S8 400metres freestyle at the Beijing Games in a world record time which still remains today.

He won bronze in defending his title at London 2012, one place behind his younger brother Ollie.

On his retirement, Hynd said: "I just felt it was time for a change and a new challenge in my life. I have been competing internationally for almost 10 years and I knew I needed a new focus.

"Winning gold in Beijing will be something that will stay with me forever and I still hold the world record from that race which is also a special feeling.

"I'll miss the sport but I was ready for the next step."
