Hyypia credits ruthless Saints

Brighton manager Sami Hyypia praised Southampton for their quality in the final third after the Sky Bet Championship side's 3-1 defeat at the Amex Stadium.

Ronald Koeman's Saints went 3-0 up with goals from Dusan Tadic, Steven Davis and James Ward-Prowse before Kazenga LuaLua got on the scoresheet with a consolation goal 15 minutes from time.

Hyypia told the club's website: "Southampton showed they have individual quality in one-on-one situations. Maybe we were lacking a bit of match sharpness, which we need to get back very quickly.

"You saw how difficult it is to defend against teams that switch the play very quickly, but it is ten days before it really matters."

There has been mass change at Brighton since the club missed out on promotion last year, after defeat in the semi-final of the play-offs at the hands of Derby, both on and off the pitch.

The former Liverpool cult hero is relishing the chance to prove his managerial credentials, after taking the post in the summer after Oscar Garcia's resignation.

He added: "When I took my first coaching job in the Bundesliga it was a big challenge for me, I like challenges and I am not worried about anything.

"We are working hard to get a few more quality signings in the side to really have a go this season."
