Icardi never considered exit

Mauro Icardi claims to have never considered leaving Inter Milan despite being heavily linked with Atletico Madrid.

The Argentine forward has attracted interest from clubs across Europe after three standout seasons in Italy with Sampdoria and Inter.

Atletico are among those to have cast admiring glances in his direction as they seek to bring in attacking reinforcements.

Diego Costa and David Villa have left the La Liga club this summer, with only Mario Mandzukic arriving from Bayern Munich.

It has been suggested that a big-money move for Icardi could now be in the offing, but the 21-year-old says he has no intention of moving to Spain.

Icardi told Corriere dello Sport: \"Atletico? Why would I ever leave Inter?

\"I am a key player here and I want to do well wearing the Inter jersey.

\"I had my phone switched off during my holiday and didn't read any papers. I never even considered leaving Inter.\"

With an exit ruled out, Icardi has revealed that he would be open to discussing an extension to a contract at the San Siro which is already due to run until 2018.

He added: \"A contract renewal? That's something my agent concerns himself with.

\"I didn't speak to any of the Inter directors. I am focusing on my performances on the pitch and my personal life.

\"If my agent gets in touch and tells me to come and sign a new deal, then I'll think about that.\"
