The ICC's Executive Board has agreed to increase the number of teams participating in the ICC World T20 from 12 to 16.
The changes will take place from the 2014 tournament onwards, which is to be held in Bangladesh.
The recommendation was announced in an ICC statement on Monday following a two-day meeting of the executive board in Dubai.
