Impressive start for Halep
Romanian Simona Halep delighted her home crowd as she eased past Indy De Vroome to reach the second round of the Bucharest Open.
Fresh off the back of a Wimbledon semi-final, the top seed made short work of beating her Dutch opponent, a sixth break securing a 6-0 6-4 triumph.
"I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It was amazing," Halep told the WTA Tour's official website. "I was impressed with the crowd, and I'm really happy I was able to win in straight sets today. It was a good start to the tournament."
Second seed Roberta Vinci is also through to the last 16 of the tournament after a 6-2 6-3 victory over Romania's Alexandra Dulgheru.
Kiki Bertens knocked out another Romanian, beating Irina-Camelia Begu 6-0 3-6 6-2, while Cristina Dinu went down 6-2 6-3 to Slovakia's Kristina Kucova.
However, Monica Niculescu, another player appearing on home turf, successfully advanced after beating Elitsa Kostova of Bulgaria 7-5 7-5.
In the day's other second round clashes, eighth seed Polona Hercog beat Katarzyna Piter 6-2 5-7 7-6 (7/4) and Lara Arruabarrena was a 7-5 3-6 7-6 (8/6) winner over Carla Buyukakcay.
